What is skin cancer?
There are two main types of skin cancer: melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma).
You should see a specialist if any of your moles have the following symptoms:
Recent changes in size, shape or colour.
New moles that look different from the others.
Largest diameter measures 6mm or more.
Changes in sensation (pain, numbness or tingling)
Spontaneous bleeding, oozing or crusting.
Ulceration
Inflammation
There are also many factors which may increase your risk of developing skin cancer:
Having fair skin (Fitzpatrick types I or II)
Family history of melanoma
Having more than 50 moles
Frequent sunburns
Having lived in a hot country
Sunbed use
